if you like reading pointless stories about my uneventful-in-the-eternal-perspective experiences, continue on. if not, quit now. i won't be offended. really.
so.
this day actually started a couple days ago when my dearest friend, tori, asked me to help her make a skirt. i gladly accepted, and that's where this journey begins.
today after work, i texted tori and told her that i'm free for a couple hours, if she wanted to come over and make a skirt. she came over, and we went to joann's to get fabric after eating more than a few pieces of winco candy each.
once at joann's, we took a ghastly amount of time trying to locate the right type of material, and once that was done it took another ghastly amount of time for tori to choose the style she wanted. once all was chosen, we went to the cutting table and had the very nice lady cut one yard of fabric, and one yard of elastic for the top of the skirt. we then headed to the cash registers, and in front of us in the line was possibly THE cutest little girl i have ever seen in my whole entire eighteen years of life. she was probably 6 or 7, and had the most gorgeous black hair ever. anyways.
we got through the register and made our way home. once home, we layed out the fabric on my bedroom floor and used the pattern i had made when i made this skirt myself to cut out tori's fabric.
one problem.
i told tori to buy one yard of fabric, but she actually needed one and a half yards of fabric.
OH CRAP.
so.. in all my genius i went searching on the internet and decided that we could make this skirt instead. minus the shirring, plus some elastic on top, it would work perfectly. so we got to cutting and sewing and ended up making one REALLY big circle. about 70 inches in circumference. mind you, the elastic we were using was 28 inches around.
houston, we have a problem.
so, we began pinning the elastic on to the fabric as described in this tutorial. now, if you know anything about elastic, you will know that you can not successfully stretch elastic so that it is more than twice it's size. it just doesn't work. so we ended up giving the skirt pleats. lots and lots and lots of pleats. i got done sewing, because tori had give up on my 1940's sewing machine, and made tori try it on.
it wasn't ugly. and that's all i say. okay, just kidding. i'll say more. it wasn't ugly. but it wasn't the cutest skirt ever (picture this, but in brown).
so, with that mess at hand, i decided i was hungry and that i wanted waffles. i then changed my mind to cookies. so, i went searching on the internet for an easy cookie recipe. i found this. simple enough, right? yeah, no. especially with the day we've been having.
so we gathered all our ingredients and began mixing. hahha. first problem: i added the chocolate chips too soon. no big deal, it'll just mean the chocolate chips will be a little squished. i don't have a problem with that.
then, we encountered an even bigger problem. if you read the recipe, you'll notice that there is virtually no liquid. this made the dough VERY difficult to mix. so tori in all her baking expertise concluded that we should add a third of a cup of oil. done. this made the cookie dough perfect.
we began spooning the dough onto a cookie sheet and soon realized that if we didn't want to have to bake two cookie sheets worth of cookies, we were gonna have to make REALLY big cookies. this then turned in to just making one big cookie cake. awesome idea. we stuck
ding, ding, ding. it was done. we pulled it out of the oven and after a not so patient cooling time, we cut the cookie cake into bars and dug in.
just like the skirt, they weren't bad. they weren't the most amazing things in the world. but they also weren't the greatest things ever. i mean, if someone else made them, i would eat them. but i'll probably never make this recipe again. ya know?
so. after eating said cookies, we headed down to my room where we proceeded to facebook stalk people and dream about getting married. soon after, tori left, and our mediocre day was over.
i then moped around with nothing to do, and my mother suggested that we take the bracelet i made for my aunt over to her. done. while there, i decided that i should go to joann's and buy the proper amount of fabric so i can make tori her skirt. also, done.
8:40 check out at joann's with fabric in tow.
8:55 rip the seam connecting the elastic to not-ugly-but-not-cute skirt.
8:58 cut out fabric for skirt following pattern
9:00 pin elastic to skirt
9:05 sew elastic to skirt
9:10 iron up bottom edge of skirt for hem
9:14 sew hem of skirt
9:21 arrive at tori's house, and leave skirt on doorstep
9:28 receive text from tori stating that you are the bomb dot com
9:28 reply saying, but not on airplanes
and that folks. was my day. you asked for it. okay, maybe only jenn did. and dania kind of did. but still. it's over. and that's all i'm thankful for.
